1. “Simmy” in Wisconsin writes: “My tropical fish aren’t exactly doing too well. Last year, my wife and I went to South America and I got a chance to see what tropical waters look like on my own. And you know what? Tropical water is warm and pristine and kinda greenish. So how am I supposed to be able to recreate South American traditions in my house before my fish jump the ship of life?”

TropicalFish.com Reply: The Internet is here to save the day. Comparison shopping helps keep prices low and just about any pet care information you need is just a search away. Recreating “South American traditions” in your house is probably not going to have a great influence on the survival rate of your tropical fish. True, an owner must put some effort into rearing tropical fish, but there are many beautiful varieties that are both hardy and clean, such as Betta fish (the feisty males are loners, however).

2. Lillian in California writes: “I am not a big fan of fake aquarium coral. My home design is very naturalistic. In a world of hybrids, real coral should be just as available as fake coral.”

TropicalFish.com Reply: Alas, real coral takes a very, very long time to make - like regrowing a broken bone. Some people insist that coral is actually beginning to disappear from our oceans. More than likely, you wouldn’t notice the difference between real and fake aquarium coral, anyway.
